Course Outline

SESSION 1: JUDGES & COACHES – 10AM-1PM

Judging Systems Overview
– How systems work
– How judging systems influence competitive outcomes
– How BCA’s system functions to improve performances/quality
– Changing trends in dance judging

Advocacy
– How to advocate for teams and provide actionable information for coaches.
– Work in groups to practice filter/focus performance viewing techniques.

BCA Scoresheet Breakdown
– Caption judging using the BCA scoresheet
– Separating artistic and technical expressions
– The importance of score profiling
– Interactive group scoring 

 

 SESSION 2: JUDGES – 2PM-5PM (Focused on Judges but Coaches are also welcome to attend)

The Role of an Adjudicator
– Increase the quality of your judging through a clearer understanding of your role.

Caption Judging
– Group discussion on scoring, an exchange of ideas
– Scoring Practice from Videos
– BCA Updates

Giving Feedback
– Offering feedback that matches scoring ranges
– The importance of tone
– Practical guide to best practices

Professionalism
– Best practices.
– Group discussions about best practices.
