Protection of Children Act (1999)

The Child Protection Policy for British cheerleading, officially endorsed by the NSPCC CPSU, was implemented by BCA on 6 June 2003.   All member clubs will have copies of the Child Protection Policy and application notes for guidance.   The BCA is a CRB Registered Body, and processes CRB Disclose application for all voluntary staff on the National Coaches Register free of charge.

Data Protection Act (1998)

The BCA is fully compliant with the requirements of Data Protection, only retaining such data as is required for membership and mailing purposes, and keeping such data in safe password protected storage.   BCA held data will only be given out for a bona fide request for a individual wishing to join a local club, or for specific event opportunity for that club.

The only CRB Disclosure information retained is the reference number of the Certificate, date and status.   Copies of Disclosure Cerificates are not retained beyond a reasonable period for follow up or quieries.

Health & Safety Directives

Risk Assessments should be carried out on practice training and event facilities.   BCA guidance on how to carry this out was published in 'Cheerleader' magazine.

The BCA has signed up to the Racial Equality Charter, and in so doing has made a public commitment to challenge and remove racial and other discrimination, and to achieve racial equality in cheerleading throughout Britain.
