Note:   Cheerleading cover is specific sports insurance for the athletic discipline of Cheerleading, requiring that clubs are working to recognised published safety guidelines as defined by the governing body of the sport.
INSURANCE AND QUALIFICATIONS

It is a requirement that clubs are run by coaches with approved qualifications, and if non-professional operate to a written club constitution.   All working in unsupervised access to children or vulnerable adults must first be cleared by the Criminal Records Bureau, and must be working to the BCA Child Protection Policy.

BCA requires that clubs without at least one qualified coach must undertake to take an approved coaches qualification as soon as practical, and within 12 months of joining BCA.   Whilst such qualification has not yet been obtained, they shall not undertake stunting or cheerleading gymnastics unless:
  • Under the direct guidance of a qualified coach or BCA Instructor.
  • Having a high level of recognised stunting experience.
  • Having been taught safe technique by a qualified BCA coach.
  • Having attended a BCA Training workshop on such skills and techniques.
For the later a certificate of attendance signed by the BCA Instructor would be made available

Coaches should be aware that the following professionally backed and recognised qualifications are relevant in British cheerleading.

NCSSE:   (National Council for Spirit Safety & Education)   Major US & International standard, backed by Cheer Ltd, NCA, COA, Americheer, UPA and other leading US organisations.

NFSHSA:   (National Federation of State High Schools Associations).   Mandatory standard for US schools and cheerleaders of school age.   Forms the baseline for standards in many other countries.   NCSSE use the NFSHSA Rule Book.

AACCA:   (American Association of Cheerleading Coaches and Advisors) Courses and qualifications backed by UCA and UDA, follows almost identical standards to NFSHSA.   AACCA rules are the industry standard for collegiate level techniques.

CHEER TECHNIQUE:   Courses and qualifications backed and endorsed by both the International Dance Teachers Association (IDTA) and BCA.

Privately run ‘qualifications’ that are not backed by genuine leading professional recognised bodies, and/or fail to meet minimum industry standard safety guidelines, will not be recognised by BCA.
